About the Directors
Band Director
Mr. Joshua Meyer
Joshua Meyer is a graduate of the University of Alabama, holding a Bachelor's in Instrumental Music Education. During his time at the university, he served as a soloist for the Million Dollar Band, was an active member Phi Mu Alpha, and served on the state governing board for the Alabama Music Educators Association. He was named the Outstanding Senior for the School of Music's 2017 Graduating Class. As a performer, Mr. Meyer spent five years with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps, winning the World Championship in 2016
Mr. Meyer began his teaching career at Auburn Early Education Center, teaching K-2 General Music, and has since served as the Visual Caption Head for Music City Drum Corps, and the band director at Ashford High School. Currently, Mr. Meyer is currently spending his summers pursuing his Masters of Music Education at Florida State University.
Mr. Meyer is tremendously excited to continue the "Tradition of Excellence" established in the Oak Grove High School Band Program.

Assisstant Band Director / Director of Percussion
Mr. Brandon Beck
Mr. Beck attended Auburn University where he performed in a variety of ensembles including the Auburn University Drumline, Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Concert Band, Campus Band, and Orchestra all while working towards his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Music and Business. Mr Beck recently graduated from the University of Alabama-Birmingham where he worked as a percussion instructor for the drumline and performs with various music ensembles on campus working to further his education while studying under Dr. Gene Fambrough.
As a performer, Brandon participated in both the DCI and WGI performance arenas. In DCI, he performed as a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets (2007-2009) and the Boston Crusaders (2010). In WGI, he performed with Odyssey Percussion Theatre (2006 and 2007), Frequency Percussion (2008), and Pariah Percussion Theatre (2009).
In 2013, Mr. Beck served as a percussion instructor for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band which performed as the opening act for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. During the 2014 DCI summer he was on staff as the tenor tech for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. Brandon has also taught the drumline at the University of South Carolina as well as numerous high school percussion sections in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Ohio.
During the summer of 2013, Brandon was chosen to serve a summer internship with the Pearl Corporation. During that time, he worked alongside the staff at Pearl in both the Sales and Marketing departments finding out first-hand what it takes to run one of the largest percussion instrument companies in the world.
Brandon is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and is proud to be an artist for Pearl/Adams musical instruments and Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.
